Be open to Strangers:
Not everyone bites. Say hi to people on the road. Turn strangers into friends. Remember they are just like you. They want to live happy full life and have just hopes and dreams too. You never know you just might make some life long friends.
Keep your Guard up:
Some people do bite, so keep a healthy level suspicion. You do not want to fall for any travel scams or get yourself into uncomfortable situations. Be open but cautious.
Let your days unfold naturally. Schedule two or three things and letting the day just take you is one of the ways to travel. Here is my advice on how to over plan your travelers.
Here are some basics behavior to have when you are traveling to Zanzibar:
Locals are willing to help you out, but there is probably a language barrier, so keep your cool when something does not your way. If you do not you will end up looking asshole tourist.
Wake up early to avoid Crowds:
Rise before sunrise to have the best attractions all to yourself while avoiding large tourist crowds. It is also a magical time for photos due to soft diffused light and it is usually easier to interact with locals getting ready for their day.
Get lost on Purpose:
If you want to see the parts of town where real people live and work in Zanzibar, you need to go visit them. The best way to do this is on foot without knowing exactly where you are going. Write down the name of your hotel so you can catch taxi back if needed, then just pick direction and start walking. Do not worry too much about stumbling into dangerous neighborhoods either, as locals will generally warn you before get that far. You never know what amazing things you will find the next bend.
Expect everything to go wrong:
Expecting everything to go wrong your trip is only setting to go perfect on your trip is only setting yourself up to fail. Nobody goes traveling and come back without any stories of mishaps. No matter how prepared you are, at some point you are going to get lost, get scammed, miss your bus, get food poisoning, injured yourself and others. Do not beat yourself up when it does. In a month’s time, you will find it funny rather than frustrating.
Do not afraid to ask:
Don’t be afraid of asking, foreigners are always welcome abroad, and locals love to chat and explain about their home land.
Do not be afraid to Splurge:
It us necessary even now and their, if you are feeling exhausted, check yourself into nice hotel for a few nights, if fancy meal. These splurges will mean so much more after months of hanging out in cheap hostels.
Keep Open Mind:
Do not judge other customs, you need to respect.
